Posted by admin

Everyone knows that eating too much before you run can bog you down and give you cramps during your run. But, it also isn’t wise to run on an empty stomach. It is important to know what the correct foods are to eat before you run. It can really make or break your performance whether you are running just for fun or as part of some kind of competition.

You definitely need a lot of energy to run and the best way to get them healthily is to eat a lot of complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provide fuel that will get into your system much quicker. They are especially important for those that are running long distances. Breads and other grains like oatmeal are great sources of complex carbohydrates. Pasta is also a great source of the energy providers. But, be sure not to eat them to close to the time that you are going to be running. Allow at least 3 hours for your body to digest the food and get it into your system.

There are plenty of food that you should avoid before running as well like processed sugars. Also, don’t try new foods that you have not eaten before on race day because you never know what kind of reaction your body is going to have to it.
