As many people are beginning to learn how to run on a consistent basis, a lot of them do not understand the difference between running on a treadmill and running outdoors. Whether you are an experienced runner or just a beginner, you will definitely benefit from learning about both forms of running.

Treadmill Running

Though running on the treadmill can be boring for some, it can actually be quite entertaining for others. I have seen people run on the treadmill for hours and they are simply enjoying themselves. Treadmills can be seen as a safer option and the treadmill continues to be the most used exercise equipment in any gym. One of the only drawbacks to a treadmill is that you will only be running in a vertical plane and you are basically jumping up and down.

Running Outside

Running outside will be your best option if the weather permits. Though many people complain about knees and how cement tends to cause pain, if you get used to running outside, you will soon reap the benefits. As one of the best ways to get in shape, running outside is definitely the better and more efficient way of getting in shape.

Staying in shape can be very challenging to do if you have a full time job and a kid to take care of. You might not have time to make it to work in the morning or after work. Running around the block a few times can be a good effective workout. One reason why is because it burns calories which reduces fat. A couple laps around the block can make a real noticeable difference in about two weeks. Running can also increase your stamina. A good stamina can help you last longer when you do physical activities like playing flag football at the company picnic or a pick up basketball game with your friends.

A treadmill is a great exercise equipment to utilize in your house. Treadmills have an incline feature and allow you to pick the speed so you can get the most out of your workout run. Even thou running can be very convenient, you should try to only run in running shoes. Running in any other shoe can increase your chances of injury. Running shoes can be brought from most sport stores. You should make sure you talk to an employee there so that can give you advice on which shoe is best for you.

There are a lot of great running movies on Direct TV (Prefontaine, anyone?) but if you really want to live the sport you’ve got to get out there and try it. If you’re new to running or just getting started here are a few tips for success:
Start small: Don’t get discouraged when you can’t run a half right out of the gate – just set small goals and try to meet them. This can be running a full mile or even running for a certain number of minutes at a time, but they should be attainable.
Get a buddy: You’re less likely to lose your drive if you’re running with a running buddy and you can in turn push each other to perform better. It’s especially helpful if you pick a day or two each week and don’t break that commitment.
Get the right gear: If you haven’t replaced your tennis shoes in years, now’s the time. Get a new pair and some dry-fit running wear and notice how your performance improves pretty much right away.

Everyone has asked at on time or another is there anything that I can do to that will help me run faster. Your in luck, you can increase your running speed with a little knowledge and training. It must be nice to know that just because you run slow you have to remain that way? In fact there are several ways and techniques that you can use to improve your running. The ways to train are listed below.

After training for your mile find a flat way and do some hundred meter sprints afterwards. Start fast and slow down when you get to the seventy meter mark. While you are running you can vary your speed. Speed up when you feel like it and slow down to pace when you tire. Another way is to run up and down hills. Think if you can run up a hill fast how much faster can you run on a flat run. Also effective is running intervals, this is run a period of time and rest for the equal amount of time.

While taking these tips into consideration there are two important things to remember. Don’t strain while running it will slow you down and customize the routine for yourself because we all have different strength and weaknesses. Have fun and enjoy.

A well-trained athlete has about 2 hours of aerobic running before his or her glycogen reserves run out. Afterwards, the runner has to metabolize fats. This is more difficult for men than women, and gives rise to what is frequently called by marathon runners as “hitting the wall”. It is rather important, then, to adapt your training and diet to be able to complete the course to the best of your ability. Several decades ago, it was popular amongst top marathon athletes to adopt a dietary regime which replaced carbohydrates by protein a few weeks before a marathon. The diet would then switch to one high in carbohydrates for the few days before the big race. The body would then tend to over compensate for the carbohydrate loss by storing excess glycogen in the muscles. This is a risky strategy, since if you arrive at the start line underweight then you are in deep trouble. An alternative way of fueling up for the big race is simply to modify your diet to take in more complex carbohydrates in the form of fruits, bread and pasta starting after your longest run, which should be about 2 weeks before the big event.

Everyone knows that eating too much before you run can bog you down and give you cramps during your run. But, it also isn’t wise to run on an empty stomach. It is important to know what the correct foods are to eat before you run. It can really make or break your performance whether you are running just for fun or as part of some kind of competition.

You definitely need a lot of energy to run and the best way to get them healthily is to eat a lot of complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provide fuel that will get into your system much quicker. They are especially important for those that are running long distances. Breads and other grains like oatmeal are great sources of complex carbohydrates. Pasta is also a great source of the energy providers. But, be sure not to eat them to close to the time that you are going to be running. Allow at least 3 hours for your body to digest the food and get it into your system.

There are plenty of food that you should avoid before running as well like processed sugars. Also, don’t try new foods that you have not eaten before on race day because you never know what kind of reaction your body is going to have to it.

When purchasing a pair of running shoes, competative runners (and amateurs alike), know that the right brand means everything. A good quality running shoe should be extremely light weight, should conform to the shape of your foot, should not bee too tight (and definately not too loose), should have a great fit and comfort level, and they should make you feel like you are wearing no shoes at all.

There are many brands available on the market today for running shoes. Companies are coming out with lighter weight, and new technologies everyday to be able to make the best running shoe on the market. There are shape-ups, there are pumps, there are electronic devices being installed in shoes today. Businesses are doing everything to appeal to the consumer; but the real pros in the game know that none of this extra fluff really matters.

Brand power is everything in running shoes. The top rated brands, year after year, have been aasics, new balance, and nike running shoes. They produce a great quality sole, comfort flex for the heels and ankles, are lightweight, and gives the runner optimal control. The right shoe really depends on each consumer, but don’t be drawn in by “features”; light weight and comfort are vital.
